Project Brief 03, "Fakery"
In the process of research and analysis of the meaning of the word “Fake”, I discovered concepts such as fake, pretend, impersonate, oppress or divide; parts which helped me to make a puzzle of people who are lost in their own selves. Sometimes people create a new self, are walking a tightrope, or oppress themselves and put on an act, not doing what they would really like to do. We are therefore asked to wander in our mind, a labyrinth where we come across concepts like the above. Maybe they have something to tell us or we just pass them by. Some others lead to dead ends. The project aims in becoming a starting point for thought and contemplation around human behavior.
• Labyrinth: Our mind, our subconscious, where from time to time we lose ourselves in it or
we get back on track.
• Mirrors: A reflection of our-self or an optical illusion.
• White lies: The incomplete/deficient bodies, still swinging around lying.
• Typography: Provides an identity for each body.
• Sound: The sound of the poem "I am not I" accompanies like an obsession the attempt to discover
our real self.
• Audience: The audience is invited to enter and wander in its own mind, running into concepts like oppression, faking, division etc. A process which becomes the starting point for thinking.
The following poem has determined my project to a great extent. It encompasses, briefly and aptly, feelings, thoughts and the project’s main idea. It refers to a man who is a split personality and sees himself as two different people. At times, he finds himself and other times he is lost. The project describes how a person, who plays games with his own mind, moves and acts.

The performance took place in a venue transformed into a labyrinth. The labyrinth symbolizes the human mind, inside of which we come across concepts like the above mentioned. Each concept is personated by a white body. Typography plays a decisive role, since it provides an identity for each body, and the etymology of each concept. Typography, videos, choreographed movement, live music and lighting complement the performance producing a unique result.

The project proposal
Venue Grid | The Venue is divided in five rooms. Each room matches a concept. In each room we see a body, which represents one of the concepts below:

Labyrinth Grid | A 100 metre labyrinth was designed for the space area that leads either to dead ends (like the ones we fall into in our mind) or to the five concepts mentioned above. My Grid is based on a labyrinth shape and its purpose is to navigate the visitor through it gradually and with a sense of insecurity for the unknown. It is the same feeling with when we feel lost in our mind without knowing where this is going to lead us.
Green area: Labyrinth Entrance
Red areas: The areas where we encounter the concepts (white bodies).
Blue area: The area where the musician is placed. The musician is behind a curtain so that the audience
are able to listen to him but see only his shadow.
Yellow area: Labyrinth Exit
